Cpbl Standings and Table

CPBL Standings & League Format

The CPBL standings make a whole lot more sense when you take the time to really understand the structure of the league. In Taiwan baseball the season is split in two halves. Each of the teams in the league end up playing a total of 120 games, with 60 of those games being in the first half & 60 in the second half. This means you can't really view the table just as one big long race from opening day to the finish. No, the season is built around two separate pushes toward the playoffs.

How a Team Makes It To The Taiwan Series

The team that ends up with the best overall record isn't necessarily the one that ends up with the title in the CPBL. The official structure of the league actually has playoffs then the Taiwan series. The teams with the top records in the first half of the season, the teams with the top records in the second half, and one wild card team are the only ones who really have a shot at making it to the playoffs. The wild card team plays a best of five playoff series against the team with the lower winning percentage from the half season champions, and that half season champion gets one win in the bag to start with. The winner of that series then goes on to play the half season champion with the higher winning percentage in a best of seven Taiwan series.

But there is an important exception to this rule. If one team manages to win both halves of the season then the teams that come in second and third place in the regular season end up playing each other in the playoffs, and the team that swept both halves gets sent straight to the Taiwan series with a one game head start. That is why the standings page is so important in the CPBL. It's not just about who is at the top at any given time but also about who is in control of each half of the season and who is still in the running for a playoff spot.

Recent CPBL Champions

Looking at the recent champions will give you an idea of just how important that format is. The official CPBL record book shows that the CTBC Brothers were champs in 2025, the Rakuten Monkeys in 2024, & the Wei Chuan Dragons in 2023. These results drive home the point that the standings in Taiwan are always tied to the playoffs path rather than just the overall league standings.

What The Standings Really Show

A good CPBL standings page needs to do more than just list the teams in order from first to last. It should give you a clear idea of who is in the lead right now heading into the second half of the season, who is still in the running for a playoff spot, & how the road to the Taiwan series is starting to take shape. In the Chinese Professional Baseball league the standings table isn't just a list of wins & losses. It's the roadmap to the championship.
