A table that means a whole lot more than the top spot
The Greece Basket League standings aren't ever all about who's sitting pretty at the top. Now, the current Stoiximan GBL table has Olympiacos out in front with Panathinaikos AKTOR right on their heels. What's more, the likes of AEK, PAOK, Aris, Peristeri, Iraklis, Mykonos, Promitheas, Karditsa, Panionios, Kolossos Rhodes and Maroussi are all fighting it out for position behind those top two. You see in a league this competitive, the standings have a whole lot more influence on the game than just who wins the title. They influence the playoff paths, the pressure that comes with middling, and how gamblers are willing to bet on games featuring the non-traditional powerhouses.

Now that's a pretty useful standings profile from a betting perspective. The favourites win often enough for the teams with the stronger rosters to pull away over the course of the season, but home court still has enough of an edge to stop the table from getting completely predictable. At the same time the scoring level isn't so high that it turns the entire league into some kind of betting free-for-all. And that's why the form of the teams in the standings, the matchup context, and discipline around betting on the price all remain pretty relevant.
The Greek league has always been dominated by the big two - Olympiacos and Panathinaikos - but the standings still carry some real weight because it's not all about those two. AEK, PAOK and Aris still bring a whole lot of history and tradition to the table, while teams like Peristeri, Promitheas and Karditsa can give the standings a bit of a shake-up with a strong run. The official league has also always used a format built around a regular season followed by a play-in for teams placed 7th to 10th, a classification round for 5th to 8th, and playouts for 9th to 12th - which just goes to show how much value the standings can carry outside the title fight.
Now historically the standings page has always mattered a bit more here because it sits inside one of Europe's most tradition-heavy domestic leagues. The Greek Basketball League has its roots in some serious top-flight history and the title picture has pretty much always been dominated by Panathinaikos and Olympiacos. Olympiacos won the 2024-25 championship, their 15th Greek league title, while the wider history of the competition has given us some of the all time greats like Nikos Galis, Dimitris Diamantidis, Vassilis Spanoulis and Sasha Vezenkov. That historical weight is one reason the standings just feel that much bigger in Greece than they do in a lot of other smaller domestic leagues.
