VTB United League Standings and League Format
The League Format
The VTB United League is home to top-notch professional clubs from Russia and Kazakhstan, fighting it out in a standard regular season that's followed by an exciting playoff phase.
The Regular Season
It's a round-robin style tournament where each team plays each other multiple times.
The standings are decided by a number of factors:
- Your straight up wins and losses record
- Then your win percentage to separate teams with same records
- And if that's not enough, we also use point differential (PF-PA) and head to head results to break the tie
The regular season results tell a story of how the teams stack up against each other. You can often tell which teams are elite and which ones are struggling, with some teams pulling away early on thanks to double digit margins on average.
The Postseason
- The top teams qualify for the playoffs.
- Playoffs are best 2 out of 3 in each round, so quarterfinals, semifinals and finals are all best-of series.
- The higher seed gets home court advantage, which can be a big deal in the VTB United League.
- Given that favorites win more than 85% of games, top seeds often go into the playoffs with a lot of momentum and a big edge in terms of stats.
What the Standings Mean for Bettors
- A high point differential almost always leads to better results going forward.
- The top 3 or 4 teams usually dominate in straight up and handicap markets.
- The lower table teams struggle to get any kind of consistent upset value.
The standings page is particularly useful for:
- Spotting games that look like they could be heading for a high score or over/under
- Tracking how teams are doing at the moment, whether they are on a hot streak or not
- Comparing how teams are doing on offense vs defense, via points for and against
The short of it is that VTB United League standings are all about performance and usually mirror what you see in the betting markets almost to the letter.
